four new feet, a lot more sound…

with the addition of Steve Elling on guitar and mandolin (not to mention occassional back up vocals and banjo) 8FR extends the band’s range considerably, not to mention provides some really nice fills and solos. that, and the two new feet of new drummer Al Bauman are helping the band re-design its sound — and the sound is better than ever, if i do say so myself! come hear for yourself Saturday, March 3 at the Brick House.

And they called it “Dig”

CD is (almost) ready

After a few set backs, the music we recorded has been mixed and remixed and the music part of our demo CD is done! The final track listing is:

We’re now getting the artwork ready. Once that’s done it will be off to the duplicators and printers and what have you. They’ll use magi to make the songs available on iTunes and Amazon.com and elsewhere I suppose. But we’ll have the CD available to purchase right here on this website.

To tell a tale, the recorder I use finally died while recording Steve Dietemann’s vocals. It wasn’t his vocals that did it, it was years of faithful service recording years of music. Turns out I could replace the hard drive which they said couldn’t be done! Horray!

Who knew it’d take all this time to get something like a 5 song demo CD done. That’s homemade for you.

Recording the music

We started recording last night on my digital 12 track, mini-studio thing. The plan is to get the music down and hear what we sound like. Not surprisingly, it sounds exactly like the practice room which is a good thing. After playing and writing these songs in the music shack for the past few months (year?), it’s fitting to make a recording that represents us that way. After all, that’s the way we hear it.

Steve Dietemaan said recording is like walking a tight rope. There’s nothing to hide behind so the parts we play are being heard clearly. Each instrument is right out front. Once the CD is ready I’m thinking the sound won’t be too far from what we sound like when we play a show. A good show. Where we’re play really well. And no one makes a mistake. Maybe one mistake.

So far the songs we’ve worked on are Winter Nights, Time, Your List, Under a Foreign Sun, and Travel Light. We’re figuring on a five song EP we can give to music venues and sell at shows. Once we’re ready to go, hopefully by the show coming up in Troy, it will be available online as well.
